Hi Christina!
The one drawback is that with the family getting larger (more kids, etc), Christmas Day becomes a rather frantic affair, and now the cans are taking their time to get home to me - usually once I've already put away the Christmas Supplies. Whoops!
Otherwise, the family pretty well knows that if they want more socks, the cans come back. ;)

Well, I'm a year late but have to say, what a great idea for handknit sock containers! I especially like the part about people returning the containers to you so you know who really appreciates the socks.

Thanks for the compliment on the spinning! I'm definitely finding it a "use it or lose it" skill, but the good thing is that I seem to be improving. The trick is keeping myself stocked with compelling fibre to spin.
That said, I think I've mentioned to you that if you want me to try spinning something up for you, you just need to supply the fibre. I can't guarantee the gauge, but I can at least give it a shot, right? ;)

B-e-a-u-tiful job with the spinning. I am impressed and a tiny bit covetous perhaps. In an attempt to get back my sock mojo I cast on for http://www.knitty.com/ISSUE... with some autumn colored yarn. Also taking a trip to Canmore this weekend to visit their LYS as I found out they carry Biscotte & Cie. (I hope they aren't sold out!)

Thanks Paula! I'm a sucker for lace too...depending on the way the pattern works up. If you're a part of the Scarefest KAL, I definitely recommend them! And if you're not....well..eventually they'll be released to the public :)

The Flax colourway of Paton's Kroy always reminds me of twine. It's just a couple of shades lighter, if memory serves. I'm surprised that I haven't accidentally trussed the roses up with my leftovers ;)

They're turning out even better than I expected. Someday I'll actually knit them in the sport weight that they recommend and we'll see how *those* turn out. These were a happy accident :D

Thanks! The sock blockers were bought via the Loopy Ewe. I have, however, seen some really nice wooden blockers on ebay and etsy. If i didn't only really need 2 sizes of blockers, I'd totally look into those. :-)

I definitely do! My Mum sews, and she tried to teach me what she could, so I can generally recognize quality work when I see it. :)
Also, the zipper pull/stitch marker is a nice touch! :D

I don't think it was on the shelves long, and if it was, it was well hidden. I found it in the reduced-price section of one of my local yarn stores and snapped it up because I thought it was an interesting concept. Schoppel-Wolle seems to really be trying to think outside the skein...I've also seen their yarn sold in flat "puck" shapes, for putting on a lazy kate while you knit!

I have a few pairs of socks that have gone that route. I find it a wonderful irony that it's usually the plainest of socks that have the most adventures ;)

Yes, oddly compelling. I like the idea that they've been to the pub and the theatre before they even became socks :)
